Kane County will prevent employees from carrying concealed weapons on county property, in county vehicles and in personal vehicles if the employee is on county business.
The Kane County Board signed off Tuesday on a resolution and Human Services Committee recommendation to adopt new rules for the Personnel Policy Handbook in light of the passage of Public Act 98-0063, the Firearm Concealed Carry Act.
Under the policy, Kane County employees may not carry a concealed firearm in any county building or vehicle.
Employees are prohibited from carrying a concealed firearm in their private vehicle, while in the course of their employment with the county.
Obviously, the policy applies to those employees who are licensed under the Illinois Firearm Concealed Carry Act. The act specifically prohibits carrying concealed firearms in any building designated for matters before a circuit court, any building or portion of a building under the control of a local government, or any building, real property, and parking area under the control of an adult or juvenile detention or correctional institution, prison or jail.
The policy does not apply to any Kane County employee who is authorized to carry a concealed firearm by any other state statute.
